Assistance Programs

People reviewing their bills

Everyone falls on hard times, but there’s help. Customers can find the help they need in these programs below. Follow the links to see if you qualify and enroll.

Low-Income Energy Assistance Program (LEAP)

If you're behind on your electricity bill, you may qualify for emergency financial help through LEAP - a grant of up to $650 per year.

To be eligible for LEAP:
- The customer account must be in arrears.
- The total amount received by a household may not exceed the maximum grant amount of $650 per year (or $780 per year for electrically-heated homes).

Ontario Electricity Support Program (OESP)

The OESP provides an ongoing monthly credit directly on electricity bills. Eligible customers receive monthly credits of $35 to $75. The credit amount is based on household income, the number of people living in the home and energy use intensity.

Customers may receive higher monthly credits, between $52 to $113, if they are:

  • Indigenous customers or customers living with Indigenous family members;
  • Customers using electric heating; or
  • Customers using electricity-intensive medical devices such as oxygen concentrators, mechanical ventilators or kidney dialysis machines.

The Ontario Energy Board (OEB) administers the program while the Ministry of Energy provides financial and program oversight.
